The Department of Homeland Security is an organization that coalesce and coordinate the efforts and responsibilities of several U.S. government agencies and entities, including the United States National Guard, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the United States Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the United States Secret Service, the Transportation Security Administration, and Civil Air Patrol.
According to the BLS, further advancement in criminal justice system requires continual study and most government agencies pay full or part tuition for their employees wishing to enhance their careers. Major course work includes a combination of field work and theory and the extent of Homeland Security encompasses lot of responsibilities, such as:
Emergency or crisis management (i.e. emergency vigilance and response for both terrorism and natural disasters)
Bio-defense and detection of radioactive and radiological materials
Investigation on next-generation security technologies (including warfare and medicine)
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts stable employment growth rate in all areas of Criminal Justice System. Due to the extensive range of jobs within the framework of Homeland Security, it's complicated to approximate job security due to diverse jobs in Homeland Security such as: law enforcement, investigation, national security and intelligence, and public safety and administration. Also the Department of Homeland Security does not suffer any major budget cuts like most other government agencies do.
